When are you ready for administration?

You are ready for administration when you can answer “yes” to the following questions:

  • Have you established your program of research and yourself as a master teacher? You need to prove yourself as an accomplished faculty member before you’re ready to assume responsibility for facilitating others and the home setting.
  • Do you regularly think “We can do better than what is in place?” If you answer “yes,” this shows that you have the kind of mind that is always seeking better ways of doing things—not a bad description of a good administrator.
  • Do you like helping others succeed? If you answer in the affirmative, chances are that you are no longer super needy yourself and have the generative spirit needed to facilitate others.
