Hopkins program aims to keep elderly at home

RWJF Nurse Faculty Scholar, Sarah Szanton, PhD, CRNP was interviewed by the Baltimore Sun about her project that aims to keep the elderly at home instead of moving into nursing homes. The program offers a handyman services as well as an occupational therapist and a nurse who can teach them fall prevention and teach them how to take their medications correctly. Program staff estimate that keeping seniors at home could save billions of dollars a year in medical costs by reducing both nursing home admissions and hospitalizations.
