Emily J. Jones, Ph.D., R.N.C.-O.B.

Emily J. Jones, Ph.D., R.N.C.-O.B., is an Assistant Professor in the College of Nursing and Health Sciences at the University of Massachusetts Boston. Dr. Jones holds a B.S.N. from Oklahoma Baptist University and Ph.D. from the University of Alabama at Birmingham. Her program of research focuses on translating diabetes and cardiovascular disease prevention in regionally and socioculturally diverse American Indian communities by developing culturally relevant lifestyle interventions for women with prior gestational diabetes. Guided by community-based participatory research principles, this work serves to bridge a common clinical divide between the obstetrical health and cardiometabolic health of childbearing women who experience significant cardiometabolic health disparities. Through the RWJF Nurse Faculty Scholars’ program, Dr. Jones will extend her research to include women from New England tribal communities while continuing to collaborate with community partners in Oklahoma. As a nurse educator, Dr. Jones is committed to influencing nurses to view women’s health, and community health promotion, more broadly, through a lens of health equity. Dr. Jones is an active member of Sigma Theta Tau International, the American Heart Association, the Preventive Cardiovascular Nurses Association, the Association of Women’s Health, Obstetric, and Neonatal Nurses, and the Eastern Nursing Research Society.
