    Courtney Lyder, Dean of UCLA's nursing school, will serve on the prestigious National Advisory Council for Nursing Research. The National Advisory Council is the main advisory board for the National Institute of Nursing Research. The council reviews grant applications and provides recommendations on the direction and support of the nursing, biomedical, social and behavioral research that forms the evidence base of nursing practice.

    Nurse faculty scholars Laura Larsson and Robin Knobel, both from the 2010 cohort, are given brief summaries about their research projects for with RWJF NFS. Larrson is conducting research on and public education for radon exposure in low-income communities while Knobel is studying health risks associated with low body temperatures in extremely premature infants.

    Dr. Beverly Malone was named “One of the 100 Most Powerful People in Healthcare” by Modern Healthcare Magazine for 2010.  She was ranked number 29.  Dr. Malone is the CEO of the National League for Nursing and the former General Secretary, Royal College of Nursing, United Kingdom.  She is a Past President of the American Nurses Association as well as a member of the New York Black Nurses Association.

    The Institute for Health Research and Policy (IHRP), one of UIC’s larger research institutes, recognized faculty from departments throughout campus for their commitment to interdisciplinary collaboration in addressing complex scientific questions about relevant health issues facing our nation today such as the obesity epidemic, tobacco use, health disparities, diabetes, and cancer. Nurse Faculty Scholar, Shannon Zenk, was named among these faculty for the 2010-2011 year.

    RWJF NFS Scholar Eric Hodges, PhD, APRN, BC aided The American Academy of Pediatrics, American Public Health Association and the National Resource Center for Health and Safety in Child Care and Early Education in releasing a 2010 report regarding childhood obesity prevention including education on meal and snack requirements and servings sizes for infants, toddlers and school age children, and minimum physical requirements as well as guides to limiting screen time and socialization during meals.
