  • Elena Siegel, Nurse Faculty Scholar 2011 Cohort

Elena O. Siegel, Ph.D., R.N., is an Associate Professor and founding faculty member at the Betty Irene Moore School of Nursing at UC Davis. Siegel earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration from California State University, Northridge, in 1980 and worked for several years as a certified public accountant and controller before transitioning to a career in nursing. She earned a Bachelor of Science in Nursing in 2002, a Master of Nursing in 2003, and Doctor of Philosophy in 2006, all from the University of Washington School of Nursing.

Siegel is developing an academic nursing career positioned at the intersections of nursing, business and management sciences. Through her research, she examines organizational and workforce capacity to support high quality, cost-effective long-term care for older adults, focusing on organizational infrastructure, systems and processes, and the management and leadership competencies of the health-care workforce. Her teaching supports students’ development of the competencies needed to improve the way health care is organized, financed and delivered.

Siegel was the recipient of both a predoctoral scholarship and Claire M. Fagin postdoctoral fellowship from the John A. Hartford Foundation Building Academic Geriatric Nursing Capacity program. She also received research funding from the American Nurses Foundation.
