Jennifer Mallow, Ph.D., F.N.P.-B.C.

Jennifer Mallow, Ph.D., F.N.P.-B.C. is an Associate Professor at West Virginia University, School of Nursing.  Her research interest is the use of technology to improve access and outcomes for persons with multiple chronic conditions living in rural and underserved areas. As a Nurse Practitioner, she has provided care, promoted health and managed the disease for uninsured individuals since 2002.  As a leader at her clinical practice site, she instituted Diabetes Group Medical Visits for uninsured individuals. Through this work, she led interdisciplinary teams to achieve successful and measurable outcomes. As a postdoctoral investigator, Dr. Mallow received the West Virginia Clinical and Translational Science Institute Scholar award. She recently completed a project that identified barriers to attendance at healthcare visits of poor uninsured individuals at a Free Clinic through Electronic Medical Record mining. Dr. Mallow's current project centers on developing and evaluating the feasibility, acceptability, and patient outcomes of an empirically developed, HIPPA compliant, web-based, system of mHealth sensors and mobile devices. The system, called mI SMART, allows patients living in rural areas to perform self-monitoring, receive feedback in real time, and attend visits from their home. Additionally, mI SMART displays a record database to providers that have the ability to integrate into Electronic Medical Records.
