Dr. Randy Jones is an Associate Professor at the University of Virginia (UVA) School of Nursing. He received a Bachelor of Science in Biology from Hampden-Sydney College. In addition, Dr. Jones earned a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN), a Master of Science in Nursing (MSN), a Post-Master as a Nurse Practitioner, and a Doctorate (PhD) in Nursing from UVA. His research interests include prostate cancer, health disparities, and treatment decision making.
Dr. Jones currently is the principal investigator of an R21 National Cancer Institute funded grant he received on the first submission that focuses on testing a modified decision aid to enhance informed, shared decision making among men diagnosed with advanced prostate cancer. He has received previous funding from the National Institute of Nursing Research, the National Center on Minority Health and Health Disparities, the National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine, the American Cancer Society, and the American Nurses Foundation.
Dr. Jones has received numerous awards/honors from UVA, the National Institutes of Health, and the local community. He currently serves on UVA Cancer Center Health Disparities Board, the Virginia Prostate Cancer Coalition Board, and the Southern Nursing Research Society Nominating Committee. Dr. Jones has been published in numerous journals, such as Cancer Nursing, The Diabetes Educator, Journal of National Medical Association, Clinical Journal of Oncology Nursing, and Oncology Nursing Forum.
