Rosa Gonzalez-Guarda, Ph.D., R.N., M.P.H., C.P.H., F.A.A.N.

Rosa M. Gonzalez-Guarda, Ph.D., M.P.H., R.N., C.P.H., F.A.A.N. is an Associate Professor at the Duke University School of Nursing. Dr. Gonzalez-Guard received a bachelor of science in nursing (BSN) from Georgetown University, a master of science in nursing (MSN) and public health (MPH) from Johns Hopkins University, and an interdisciplinary PhD (nursing, epidemiology and psychology) from the University of Miami. She has worked on community health programs and research targeting Hispanics and other health disparity populations in the U.S., Latin America, the Caribbean and Europe. Her current research focuses on the intersection of substance abuse, intimate partner violence and risky sexual behaviors among Hispanics and the development of culturally tailored interventions to address these. She is also the principal investigator of a community-based participatory research study aiming to develop domestic violence prevention programs for Hispanics in Miami-Dade County. Dr. Gonzalez-Guarda has received several honors and awards including the appointment to an Institute of Medicine committee on the future of nursing, a cornerstone of the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation (RWJF) initiative on the future of nursing. Through the RWJF Nurse Faculty Scholars’ program, she will develop and pilot test a teen dating violence prevention program for Hispanic youth.
