Susan Breitenstein, Ph.D., R.N., F.A.A.N.

Susan Breitenstein, PhD, RN, FAAN is an Associate Professor at Rush University College of Nursing. Her clinical expertise is in child and adolescent psychiatric nursing and group-based behavioral change interventions. Dr. Breitenstein earned a BS in psychology from the University of Dayton in Ohio and a BS in nursing, MS in nursing, and PhD from Rush University. Dr. Breitenstein has a special interest in mental health prevention and mixed methods, implementation and dissemination research.Her research focuses on studying empirically supported implementation strategies. Dr. Breitenstein has developed, tested, and implemented a reliable and valid measure of intervention fidelity for a group based parent-training intervention and has consulted on adaptations for other behavioral change interventions.Currently, Dr.Breitenstein is interested in developing innovative ways to deliver evidence-based programs targeting young children and families experiencing economic and social hardships. She is currently developing and testing a digital delivery system for a parent-training program for low income, ethnic minority parents of young children. Dr. Breitenstein integrates her expertise in fidelity and mental health prevention in her teaching and is dedicated to developing the next generation of clinical and research nursing scholars to care for and collaborate with an increasingly diverse society.
